Meet Dr. Michelle Hughes

DMD

The Professional Side

Born in Boston and growing up in the small town of Stoneham, MA, Dr. Michelle Hughes is a proud New Englander who has spent the last 10 years studying and living across different parts of Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire. Dr. Hughes graduated from the University of New England College of Dental Medicine in Portland, ME, and completed a postdoctoral residency program in advanced education in general dentistry in Fitchburg, MA.

Before dental school, she received a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in psychology from Assumption University in Worcester, MA, and then earned a master’s degree in oral health sciences from Boston University School of Dental Medicine. Throughout her academic career, Dr. Hughes has always tried to find ways to help her community, whether through mentoring programs that promote dentistry as a career for minorities or community outreach programs. During her last year of dental school, she completed a three-month externship at Mid-State Health Center in Bristol, NH, where she focused on serving the primary care needs of at-risk patients and the underserved population of central New Hampshire. Dr. Hughes has been an active member of the Massachusetts Hispanic Dental Association (MHDA) and, during her time in dental school, served in leadership roles in the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), American Student Dental Association (ASDA) and served as president of her schools Hispanic Student Dental Association (HSDA).

The Personal Side

Outside of practicing dentistry, Dr. Hughes’ other passions include cooking, traveling, and dabbling in different art projects like sketching and painting. Since art is one of her biggest passions, choosing dentistry as a career was a no-brainer. Just like her art, she meticulously works to create a beautiful smile for all her patients.

She enjoys driving through all parts of New England, especially during the fall season with her husband, but she also loves to travel every chance she gets. At a young age, she caught the travel bug after her first trip to Peru when she was only two years old. Since her family is originally from Peru, Michelle has embraced her family’s culture and beautiful history. Realizing there is so much more to see in this world, Dr. Hughes’ dream is to visit the seven wonders of the world. From climbing the mountains of Peru to exploring the ancient Mayan pyramids of Mexico, she hopes to make this dream come true.
