What does pediatric dentistry include?
Pediatric dentistry involves using sealants to prevent cavities and tooth decay on a child’s back molars. This treatment works by applying a thin acrylic coating over the teeth, which hardens and keeps out bacteria and plaque that could harm the teeth. Additionally, applying fluoride directly to the teeth helps strengthen the enamel, keeping teeth strong and healthy, and it can even reverse decay.

What is a pediatric dentist?
Pediatric dentists are committed to the oral health of children from infancy through the teenage years. They have the expertise and qualifications to provide dental care for children’s teeth, gums, and mouth at every stage of childhood. Pediatric dentists undergo at least four years of dental school education and an additional two years of residency training in dentistry for infants, children, teenagers, and those with special needs.

What is pulp therapy?
A pulpotomy can be performed if only the tip of the pulp is damaged and the root is healthy. In this case, we will remove the decay and place material over the remaining pulp to protect it. Finally, a crown will be placed. By saving the pulp, your child has a greater chance of developing a healthy adult tooth.
A pulpectomy is performed if the damage has extended into the tooth root. In this case, all of the living material will need to be removed and the space will be filled, similar to an adult root canal. A crown will be placed to assist with spacing when the adult tooth is ready to come in.
